The genre of our opening sequence is a crime thriller although this is predominantly a thriller there is some elements of action throughout for example our end scene. Within a crime thriller there's lots of suspense and tension created as that is what thrill isn't known for they are Very dramatic and gripping the reason that it's a crime thriller is the cause of the role of the detective and how the rest of the film would play out it's more based around the detective than the killer.
When looking at similar products of our opening sequence I decided that line of duty was a similar TV show that fitted the genre and theme of the opening sequence in terms of films that have similar styles to our opening sequence is salt that was directed by Philip Noyce and girl with the Dragon Tattoo that was directed by David Fincher.
The TV show line of duty Came out in 2012 and has recently been a huge success the series is about a police officer who did a home invasion that went wrong and killed the wrong person he then gets sent to a special forces group within the police force who investigate police officers and police units that are corrupt, and each episode gives a different story of a corrupt police officer within the force. The whole TV show doesn't necessarily completely correlate with our opening sequence however individual episodes definitely show similar themes and a similar style to what we were going for in our opening sequence. As well as the narrative doesn't exactly run in parallel with what we were doing however there are specific scenes and moments within line of duty that really fit with what we are trying to convey Especially the stuff that was out of the Police Department when they would go on missions and go into other people's houses that's where ours and there's showed most similarity. In terms of setting and location in our opening sequence it was all based in the killer's house and even though our detective was a detective there was no visual of where she is based for example a police officer headquarters It was all based in the killer's house, and this runs along with similar ideas from line of duty when they would go into other people's houses unlock around them.
The movie the girl with the dragon tattoo came out in 2011 it was directed by David Fincher. It is a about a girl who is hired. To help the investigation of his missing niece. However, when she turns up it's not what they expected she goes agates all the stereotypes for women. The big difference the main characters are they way they look in our opening scene she looks stereotypically of what a female detective looks like she is in a smart suit and has her special officers' badge however the girl in the girl with the dragon tattoo goes against all female stereotypes she walks into the office building in all black she is cover in pricings and casual clothes. The other difference is the location the and are sequences based again within a serial killers house and in the countryside and in the garden the Dragon Tattoo they are based in the city and within office buildings. however they do follow a similar narrative they are both female lead detectives and they both are involved within the police and solving investigations however the goblet Dragon Tattoo is more based around the person that went missing and one specific investigation and in terms of our opening sequins is more about the detective and all the things that she solves. change the nature of each opening sequence within the girl with the dragon tattoo they are more short duration shots as not much suspense is being built and it's based around her and revelling what she looks like and when it comes to our opening sequence the short duration is a little bit longer and the music is more suspenseful building up to one specific moment of when the detective kills the murderer. so in terms of different editing styles as a more long duration shots and have more suspenseful music playing over the top.
