Comparing title sequences
Greece And American horror story
Greece was released on the 14th of September 1978 it was directed by Randal Kleiser and it was produced by paramount pictures.
The grease opening tittle sequences is very vibrant and bold, and the music is upbeat and happy. The sequence starts with a voice over of someone talking about the first day of school, this suggests gives us a hint of the setting and location of the movie. The entire opening sequences is animated suggesting that the characters are over the top and carry bold personalities. The long shots on the characters animated profiles allows the audience to build an idea of what they might be like and the actors and what they play again the caricature image of them really allows the audience to play into there characters. they also could symbolise year book pictures further suggesting the school and teen vibe.

there is also within the opening title sequence hints to the era it was set in for example the image of Elvis Presley who was a famous singer in the 1950s this suggests that the movie is set in that time period which also can help create the atmosphere of the film. The fun and bright animated style clips all adhere to the iconic 1950s pop culture in the USA. this all gives hints to the tone and atmosphere of the film.
We can also tell by the opening sequence that the characters play into their stereotypes, the blond, blue eyed girl waking up already looking perfect with her hair and makeup done she gets up with ease. Compared to the first boy we see with a messy room hair in his face and struggles to get up. All playing into the classic stereotypes.
The rest of the sequences the other important roles are reviled in the making of and the rest of the main characters. These are shown on billboards around the city it is set in allowing the audience to establish the location of the film. This is done through continuous transitions; you can also see the characters in the cars at the bottom on the screen suggesting they are a part of a friend group. at the very end of the sequence you see the cars pull up to school and then it fades into unanimated.
American horror story season 1 was released on 5th of October 2011, it was directed by Ryan Murphy and it was produced by FX
American horror story opening sequence is very dark It sets a dark and mysterious tone, seems like it is set in a basement there are many shot duration clips and flashing images which makes it hard for the audience to really know what is going on these clips are interrupted with momentary flashing bright lights to almost obscure the audience's visions leaving them in suspense of what they are going to see next. Images of creepy dolls and baby's and unknown things in jars sets a disturbing tone.
the font is thick and bold its gothic like
it almost jumped out at you it is very bold and in your face you can see it very clearly and it also comes in with added audio to give it some life about it and the fun also has a transition out it sort of blotches and fades out which gives it a creepy feel. You can instantly tell that this is going to be a horror genre with the dark themes the visuals are very jumpy the sound has no lyrics and it has a very creepy undertone it's sort of makes you feel all jittery and on edge giving it that horror feel.

From the onset that isn't very dark tone over the imagery and the way it's been cut and edited makes the audience feel something it's very clear that the storyline is going to be probably quite morbid and include a lot of horror. The time period that this film would have been set in is hard to sort of tell from the opening sequence as you don't see a lot it's very hard to fixate on one thing there's a lot going on at once it's hard to sort of tell where this is taking place you can sort of guess that it's going to be in a basement type location but this doesn't really give you a date and time this would be set up however what you can see it sort of gives an old fashioned medicine type feel it sort of gives off the impression that this is maybe an older person however it's definitely hard to judge. From what you can see there were no characters introduced you see pictures on the wall of babies and things like that but there's no actual person there in shot all the time so it's hard to sort of gauge on who the the person might be but you can get a good idea of their surroundings and what's being shown.

in terms of these two opening sequence side by side they are very good in establishing what genre they are and as you can tell they are extremely different polar opposites in fact that is good music going on you can see that it's a group of friends that were going to school it's set in the 60s you can tell by their fashion who they are as characters however in the second one it's the complete opposite it's very dark everything's a bit in the unknown the titles are done in a completely different way you can tell it's full of horror and it's got themes of grimness the music is very jittery and hasn't got a consistent pattern. In terms of which opening sequence I believe showed their genre in there best way I think the first one gives you and shows you a lot about what the film is going to entail you meet all the characters you instantly know a lot about their personalities you can understand what age they are you can understand what relationships they have with each other you also get a feel of what the location they are in the city it tells you a huge amount of what you are about to watch and I think paired with the cartoons and the music really shows the audience a huge amount in great detail.
